“PREPARATION WEEK: HOW A CHARITY FAIR ALMOST CAUSED A SECOND DISASTER.”
(Building, rehearsing, planning… and surviving Ray &
Ethan.)
Preparation Week began with optimism.
By Tuesday afternoon, that optimism was gone.
DAY 1 — MONDAY: THE BOOTHS BEGIN
The school courtyard transformed into a construction zone.
Tables appeared. Banners flapped. Cardboard, duct tape, and string ruled the
land.
Amy stood in the center holding a clipboard like a general.
“Okay. We follow the plan. Everyone works in teams.”
Lucy nodded. “Safety first. No power tools without
supervision.”
Ray raised his hand.
“Define ‘power tool.’”
Lucy stared at him.
“Anything that spins, sparks, launches, cuts, drills, or looks exciting.”
Ray lowered his hand.
Ethan whispered, “That’s everything.”
GAME BOOTH: RAY & ETHAN’S TERRITORY
Their assigned booth was called:
“LUCKY TOSS”
Simple.
Harmless.
Ring toss. Prizes.
Ray crossed his arms.
“This name lacks fear.”
Ethan nodded.
“What if the rings explode?”
Lucy appeared behind them.
“No.”
Ray sighed dramatically.
Instead, they secretly added:
- dramatic
lighting (fine)
- spooky
music (acceptable)
- a
fog machine (confiscated)
By the end of the day, the booth still functioned normally.
Ray stared at it.
“…I hate how responsible this looks.”
