LLoC Writing Tricks 62 - The Zombie Invasion Part 6 - The Final Move

🧠 LLoC Writing Tricks — THE MAD SCIENTIST RETURNS — AND SO DOES MEGATRON

✏️ a 6-part creative writing framework that helps students learn story-building skills step by step. Each “trick” teaches one essential element — from crafting vivid sentences to creating believable characters and hilarious dialogue.

✏️ 1. Building Better Sentences — Suspense Through Fragment Stacking

What it means:
Short sentence fragments are stacked to build tension and drama before a big reveal.

From the story:
“…a beaker rattled.
…a monitor flickered.
…and a half-melted lab coat twitched.”

Try it:
Write three short sentence fragments that lead up to something scary, surprising, or funny appearing.

🧍 2. Character Magic — Consistent Chaos Personalities

What it means:
Characters act exactly how readers expect, which makes the chaos funnier and more believable.

From the story:
Ray: “Finally. A challenge worthy of our stupidity.”
Lucy: “This is why we can’t take you anywhere.”

Try it:
Write one line of dialogue that proves a character has learned nothing from past disasters.

πŸŒ† 3. Description & Imagery — Exaggeration for Comedy

What it means:
Extreme, over-the-top descriptions make scenes feel vivid and humorous.

From the story:
“His hair stood straight up like he’d been electrocuted by a toaster.”
“Snarling like a blender full of nails.”

Try it:
Describe a villain using an object comparison that shouldn’t be scary—but somehow is.

πŸ“– 4. Plot & Story Flow — Surprise Escalation

What it means:
Just when the danger feels peak-level, the story introduces something even bigger.

From the story:
The Mega-Zombie Scientist appears → the kids panic → MEGATRON arrives instead.

Try it:
Write a scene where a new character interrupts a fight and completely changes the power balance.

πŸ˜‚ 5. Dialogue & Humor — Jokes During Maximum Danger

What it means:
Humor lands hardest when characters joke at the worst possible moment.

From the story:
Ethan: “He sounds like my mom when I forget homework.”
Ray: “He sounds like YOUR MOM when I forget homework.”

Try it:
Add one joke during a chase scene that absolutely should not be happening—but does.

🧠 6. Creativity & Critical Thinking — Ridiculous Logic That Works

What it means:
The final solution sounds stupid—but is pieced together logically using what’s already in the scene.

From the story:
Ethan: “Guys… I think I AM the cure now.”
“I’M VITAMIN E—THAAAAAAAN!”

Try it:
Solve a major problem using a character, object, or mistake that already appeared earlier.

LLoC Challenge (Bonus):

What new problem does Megatron accidentally cause by showing up?
Write one paragraph where the kids realize his help created another disaster.
