Ray, Ethan, and Amy dream of starting a band. Amy agrees—on the condition that she can fire them daily.
Their friendship dynamic was pure chaos. Ray had wild ideas. Ethan went along with them. Amy roasted them into ashes but somehow still hung out with them.
One day after school, the three sat at the park eating ice cream.
“You know,” Ray said, “if we ever form a band, we should call ourselves ‘The Dumbbeats.’”
Ethan nodded. “Yeah! And Amy can be our manager!”
Amy licked her ice cream thoughtfully. “Only if I get to fire you both daily.”
Suddenly, Ethan’s ice cream fell off the cone.
He stared at it, horrified. “My ice cream… it’s gone.”
Ray put a hand on his shoulder. “It lived a good life, bro.”
Amy sighed.
“You two need therapy.”
Ray grinned. “We tried that once. The therapist quit.”
Chapter 8 — The Calm After the Dumbstorm
Amy watches their chaos and realizes something shocking: she actually likes these idiots. (Don’t tell them that.)
That night, Amy scrolled through her phone, watching the videos of the boys’ latest disasters—Ray falling off a bike, Ethan accidentally setting off a confetti cannon in class, the ketchup cereal experiment 2.0.
She laughed despite herself. They were dumb, yes. But they were also her dumb boys.
The next day, when Ray tripped over his own backpack and Ethan got his hoodie stuck in a locker, Amy rolled her eyes and said,
“Come on, idiots. Let’s go before you accidentally burn down the school again.”
Ray grinned. “Aw, you do care!”
Amy glared. “I care about not dying in your chaos, that’s all.”
Ethan whispered, “She loves us.”
Amy threw a notebook at him.
And so, the chaos continued. The Dumbstorm raged on. And Amy, the eternal roaster, kept the flames alive—one insult at a time.
Because no matter how dumb Ray and Ethan were, the world was never boring when they were around.
And deep down, Amy wouldn’t have it any other way.
“You two need therapy.”
Ray grinned. “We tried that once. The therapist quit.”
