LLoC Writing Tricks 67 — The DeceptiKids Training Day

🧠 LLoC Writing Tricks — “DECEPTIKIDS TRAINING DAY”

✏️ a 6-part creative writing framework that helps students learn story-building skills step by step. Each “trick” teaches one essential element — from crafting vivid sentences to creating believable characters and hilarious dialogue.

✏️ 1. Building Better Sentences — Escalating Chaos Structure

What it means:
Each sentence builds on the previous one, increasing the chaos step-by-step until it becomes hilarious.

From the story:
“He nailed it the first time.
Then celebrated too early and got whacked into a foam pit.”

Try it:
Write a 3-step action: success → overconfidence → instant failure.

🧍 2. Character Magic — Unique Problem-Solving Styles

What it means:
Each character solves problems in their own way, showing personality through action.

From the story:
Ray = reckless action
Ethan = accidental success
Amy = logic and planning
Lucy = manipulation (granola bar bribe)

Try it:
Create one obstacle and show four different ways characters overcome it.

πŸŒ† 3. Description & Imagery — Hazard-Based Environment

What it means:
The setting itself creates tension and humor through exaggerated danger.

From the story:
“suspicious puddles labeled ‘definitely not acid’”

Try it:
Design a dangerous environment using funny warning labels or exaggerated hazards.

πŸ“– 4. Plot & Story Flow — Training Level Progression

What it means:
The story is structured like a game, with levels and challenges increasing in difficulty.

From the story:
“1. ORIENTATION VIDEO”
“5. TEAMWORK SIMULATION: THE BIG RED BUTTON”

Try it:
Write a scene as if it’s a game level progression with stages.

πŸ˜‚ 5. Dialogue & Humor — Insult Comedy (Roast Battles)

What it means:
Fast, creative insults add humor and energy to dialogue.

From the story:
“Bro you look like a toaster on stilts.”
“You sound like my blender when it’s dying.”

Try it:
Write 3 funny, creative (non-mean) roasts for a character.

🧠 6. Creativity & Critical Thinking — Rewarding Bad Decisions

What it means:
Instead of punishing mistakes, the story turns them into success.

From the story:
Ray presses the button immediately… and they still pass the test.

Try it:
Write a scene where a “wrong” decision leads to a better outcome.

LLoC Challenge (Bonus)

Design Level Two Training—but make it even more ridiculous (e.g. stealth mission where Ray can’t stay quiet, or teamwork mission where no one agrees).
