SECTION TWO: THE SERVICE ZONE (WHERE MIRACLES HAPPENED)
Across the courtyard, something completely different was
happening.
Something… calm.
1. The Kids’ Community Desk
Amy ran it like a command center.
Flyers.
Maps.
Sign-up sheets.
“What do you need?” she asked gently.
Food vouchers.
Repair help.
Tutoring.
Lucy coordinated volunteers.
“You—math help.
You—clean-up crew.
You—go sit down, you look exhausted.”
People listened.
2. Homework & Recovery Station
Ethan, shockingly focused.
Ray helped younger kids with science.
“Well, mostly helped,” Ray said.
“Sometimes I emotionally supported the pencil.”
Parents stared.
“Are those the same boys from the roast tent?”
“Yes,” Lucy replied.
“We don’t ask questions.”
3. Cooking for the City
Gordon Ramsay’s students ran the kitchen.
No yelling.
Just efficiency.
Meals went out in batches.
Uncle Roger approved the fried rice.
Nick DiGiovanni plated like a professional.
Jamie Oliver added herbs no one could pronounce.
The kids delivered meals themselves.
“Thank you,” one elderly man said.
Ray nodded seriously.
“You’re welcome.”
Then tripped over a cable immediately after.
