They barricaded the
door.
Turned off the
lights.
Hid behind desks.
Outside, groans
echoed through the halls.
The dead wandered
the campus.
Footsteps.
Dragging.
Scratching.
Ray whispered: “I’m
scared.”
Ethan whispered
back: “Same bro.”
Amy whispered:
“Stay quiet.”
Lucy whispered: “I swear if one of you farts right now—”
Ray: “I CAN’T
PROMISE ANYTHING WHEN I’M SCARED.”
Footsteps
approached the classroom door.
Shadows shifted
under the crack.
Ethan clutched his
onigiri basket like holy weapons.
Amy held her
flashlight like a dagger.
Lucy raised her
broom.
Ray squeezed his
mop.
The handle snapped
in half.
Lucy: “RAY FOR THE
LOVE OF—”
The footsteps
paused.
Sniffed.
Snorted.
Then slowly
shuffled away.
The four of them
stayed frozen for a full minute.
Then Lucy
whispered, trembling:
“Okay. Okay. Okay. We can survive this. We just need to get to the rooftop at
sunrise. That’s where helicopters rescue people.”
Amy nodded.
“Right. We move at dawn.”
Ray: “Okay. But
what if there’s zombies in the hallway?”
Ethan: “What if there’s zombies on the stairs?”
Ray: “What if the rooftop is full of zombies?”
Ethan: “What if we become zombies?”
Ray: “What if Lucy becomes the zombie queen—”
Lucy: “SHUT UP BEFORE I MAKE YOU THE FIRST TO GO.”
Ray: “Sorry.”
Amy: “Let’s rest in
shifts.”
They huddled
together behind desks.
The school creaked.
The undead moaned.
The moon rose.
And four terrified
kids waited for dawn.

CHAPTER 6 — DAWN OF
CHAOS
At sunrise, they crept out of the classroom.
The halls were silent.
Too silent.
Ray: “We run. NO STOPPING.”
Ethan: “No breathing.”
Lucy: “Ethan you need to breathe.”
Ethan: “I’ll breathe later.”
They reached the stairwell.
Empty.
They climbed quietly.
The rooftop door was ahead.
One more turn.
Ray whispered—
“We made it.”
He opened the final door.
And saw—
TWENTY ZOMBIES TURN AROUND AT ONCE.
Lucy screamed.
Amy grabbed Ray.
Ethan karate-kicked the air (useful to nobody).
Ray shouted: “CLOSE IT! CLOSE IT! CLOSE—”
Lucy slammed the rooftop door so hard the hinges shook.
Amy locked the latch.
They backpedaled down the stairs.
Ethan: “We’re trapped.”
Ray: “We’re dead.”
Amy: “We need a new plan.”
Lucy: “I HATE TODAY.”
And then—
From outside—
A helicopter.
A voice on a megaphone:
“EVAC TEAM HERE! ANY SURVIVORS, SIGNAL NOW!”
Ray screamed.
Ethan screamed louder.
Amy threw a chair out a window to get attention.
Lucy waved her jacket like a maniac.
Zombies burst out the rooftop door.
They sprinted for the nearest window.
The rescue team lowered a rope ladder.
Ray climbed first.
Ethan second.
Lucy third.
Amy last.
Zombies piled under them, reaching—
The helicopter lifted.
The four dangled in the air screaming in terror and relief.
Ray: “WE’RE ALIVEEEE!”
Ethan: “WE SURVIVED REAL ZOMBIES!”
Amy: “Thank god…”
Lucy: “If either of you ever say ‘this is like a video game’ again, I’m
throwing you to the zombies.”
Ray: “Yes ma’am.”
