“WEAPON TIME,” Ray
declared, grabbing a mop.
Ethan armed himself
with a basket of onigiri.
Lucy grabbed a
broom properly, like a responsible fighter.
Amy picked up a
first-aid kit and a flashlight.
Ray: “We’re ready.”
Lucy: “Ray, you’re
holding the mop backwards.”
Ray: “Oh.”
Amy paced. “Okay…
we need a plan. Shelter, food, safety, information—”
Ethan: “We should
get to the school! It’s big, defensible, and has a rooftop.”
Lucy: “And locked
security gates.”
Ray: “Plus vending
machines worth raiding.”
Amy: “Okay. School
it is.”
They slipped out
the back door of the convenience store.
The streets were
emptier now.
Too empty.
Far in the
distance… more groans.
More footsteps.
A horde.
And it was moving
toward their neighborhood.
Lucy grabbed Ray’s
arm. “We have to move NOW.”
🏃♂️ CHAPTER 4 — THE RUN
TO SCHOOL
They sprinted through alleys, climbed fences, dodged
abandoned cars.
Ray: “Bro this is like a video game.”
Ethan: “Except if we die, we actually die.”
Lucy: “SHUT UP AND RUN FASTER!”
Amy: “LEFT TURN! LEFT TURN— NO RAY THAT’S A WALL— RAY—”
They made it to the school gate.
Locked.
Barbed.
Very locked.
Ethan: “We’re dead.”
Ray: “Guys… look.”
On the second floor, a classroom window was open.
Amy: “We climb.”
Lucy: “We’re going to break our legs.”
Ray: “BETTER BROKEN LEGS THAN NO LEGS.”
They stacked crates, bins, and a fallen signpost.
Ray climbed first.
Then Ethan.
Then Amy.
Lucy got halfway up—
A zombie rounded the corner.
Fast.
Sprinting.
Lucy: “WHY IS THAT ONE FAST— WHY— RAY PULL ME UP—”
Ray grabbed her wrists.
Ethan grabbed Ray.
Amy grabbed Ethan.
Zombie grabbed Lucy’s shoe.
Lucy kicked it in the face and screamed, “EWWW DON’T TOUCH
ME, YOU DISEASED PICKLE!”
They yanked her through the window
and slammed it shut.
The zombie slammed into the glass with a thud.
Lucy collapsed on the classroom floor panting.
Amy collapsed next to her.
Ethan sat in a chair backwards like a cool failing student.
Ray was sweating like a waterfall.
Ray: “Okay. New mission. Survive until rescue.”
Ethan: “Or until we become zombies.”
Lucy: “NOT HELPING.”
