LLoC Writing Tricks 31 — Universal Studio Mayhem

🧠 LLoC Writing Tricks — Universal Studio Mayhem

✏️ a 6-part creative writing framework that helps students learn story-building skills step by step. Each “trick” teaches one essential element — from crafting vivid sentences to creating believable characters and hilarious dialogue.

✏️ 1. Building Better Sentences — Action-Packed Openings

What it means:
Start with quick, energetic sentences that pull the reader straight into the chaos.

From the story:
“Ray and Ethan came sprinting down the entrance road, both wearing Minion costumes. Full ones. With goggles.”

Try it:
Write an opening line where characters enter dramatically and immediately cause trouble.

🧍‍♂️ 2. Character Magic — Exaggerated Personalities

What it means:
Give each character an extreme, memorable trait that drives their actions.

From the story:
Ethan: “BANANA!”
Ray: “BEE DOO BEE DOO!”
Lucy: “I’m already reconsidering existing.”

Try it:
Create a character who reacts way too strongly to something simple.

πŸŒ† 3. Description & Imagery — Comedy Through Visual Chaos

What it means:
Use silly, vivid images to make the scenes funnier and easier to picture.

From the story:
“The straw snapped. The milkshake exploded all over Lucy’s bag.”

Try it:
Describe something going wrong using a visual that makes readers laugh.

πŸ“š 4. Plot & Story Flow — Escalating Disaster

What it means:
Let each scene become more chaotic than the last, building toward a big comedic finale.

From the story:
“By late afternoon, they had been ‘politely escorted’ from three rides.”

Try it:
Write three short events where each one is worse (or funnier) than the one before.

πŸ’¬ 5. Dialogue & Humor — Snappy Comedic Timing

What it means:
Characters use fast, punchy lines to create humor and show personality.

From the story:
Amy: “Next time, we’re going without them.”
Lucy: “Or to a cave. Alone.”

Try it:
Write a two-line exchange where one character is serious and the other is ridiculous.

πŸ’‘ 6. Creativity & Critical Thinking — World Blending & Parody

What it means:
Mix real-life places with wild imagination to create funny, unexpected situations.

From the story:
“Ray pointed his wand dramatically. ‘Ray Potter versus Ethan Malfoy! For honor and snacks!’”

Try it:
Pick a real location and turn it into a chaotic adventure using imagination.

LLoC Challenge (Bonus):

Rewrite one scene from the story as if Ray and Ethan were actually trying to behave responsibly—but still fail in the funniest way possible.
