Chapter 2: A ‘Controlled Reaction’
The principal stormed over, face red. “Ethan! What in the
name of Newton’s laws have you done?!”
“I call it a ‘controlled reaction,’” Ethan said confidently.
Ray, holding a half-burnt piece of spaghetti, added, “Yeah! Controlled by chaos.”
“Controlled by my patience, which is officially gone!” the
principal barked. “Clean this up — now!”
So, for the next hour, the four of them mopped up flour,
noodles, and melted marshmallows from the gym floor.
Ray used the mop like a lightsaber. “Look, Ethan! I’m
MOP-wan Kenobi!”
Ethan threw a wet towel at him. “You’re more like
RAY-diculous!”
Amy was trying to clean the ceiling somehow, muttering, “How
does flour even get up there?!”
Lucy sighed. “Because gravity gives up when Ethan’s around.”

Chapter 3: ‘Most Likely to Cause Evacuation’ Awards
After cleaning up, the four sat on the steps outside. Ethan
stared at the now-empty spaghetti container. “Okay, so maybe it needs a few
adjustments.”
Ray snorted. “Adjustments? Bro, it blew up like a firework
eating pasta!”
Amy giggled. “Honestly, though, it was kind of impressive.
You managed to feed the entire gym with one explosion.”
Lucy smiled. “Yeah, it’s the first time a project got both ‘Most Innovative’ and ‘Most Likely to Cause Evacuation’ awards.”
Ethan’s eyes widened. “Wait—what? We got awards?”
Lucy held up two certificates. “Yeah. You also got banned
from using school lab equipment until graduation.”
Ray patted Ethan’s shoulder. “Hey, buddy. Look on the bright
side. You can still invent things at home.”
Ethan perked up. “That’s true! I’ll just use my mom’s
blender and—”
“NO!” Amy, Lucy, and Ray all shouted in unison.
Ethan frowned. “Fine. Maybe the washing machine?”
Lucy threw her hands up. “And that’s how their house
disappears next week.”
