The Exploding Science Fair
It was a normal Thursday morning — which meant chaos was
guaranteed. Ethan showed up at school with a suspiciously large backpack that
clanked like a junkyard every time he moved. Ray immediately squinted.
“Ethan,” Ray said slowly, “why does your backpack sound like
a robot choking on spoons?”
Ethan grinned. “Because, my scientifically inferior friend,
today is the Science Fair! And I have built…the future!”
Amy, who was walking by, sighed. “The last time you said
that, you accidentally created smoke that smelled like burnt socks for a week.”
“That was version one,” Ethan replied proudly. “This is version two: The Self-Cleaning, Self-Aware,
Self-Destructing Microwave!”
Ray blinked. “Why would a microwave need to be
self-destructing?”
“In case it burns popcorn again,” Ethan said seriously.
Lucy, holding her perfectly labeled science board about
solar energy, muttered, “I’m going to stand at least five meters away from
him.”

Chapter 1: Micro-Master 5000
The science fair began. The gym was packed with students
showing off impressive projects — miniature volcanoes, solar-powered cars, and
one guy who made a robot dog that could say “hello.”
Then it was Ethan’s turn.
He wheeled out a metal contraption made from spare car
parts, an old toaster, and what looked suspiciously like Ray’s missing
lunchbox.
“Behold!” Ethan shouted dramatically. “The Micro-Master
5000! It can cook, clean, and—”
“Explode?” Amy interrupted.
“Only if you press the red button,” Ethan said.
Ray immediately reached for the red button. “What does this
one do?”
Ethan smacked his hand away. “Ray! This is science! Not—”
*CLICK*
Ray had pressed it.
Everyone froze.
The microwave made a low humming sound, then began to
vibrate like a phone on caffeine. A small puff of smoke came out, then sparks,
then—
**BOOM!**
Flour, noodles, and confetti exploded everywhere. Ethan’s
hair turned white like a mad scientist’s wig. The gym filled with a smell that
could only be described as “burnt mystery.”
Amy ducked behind a table. “I told you!” she shouted. “Every
time he does science, the school almost gets destroyed!”
Ray coughed through the smoke. “Ethan… why does it smell
like spaghetti and shame?”
Ethan, covered in soot, stood proudly. “That, my friend, is
the smell of progress.”
Lucy groaned. “It’s the smell of detention.”
