Chapter 6: The Climax: The Dance Battle
As they headed for the exit, Ethan spotted the Dance
Dance Revolution machine.
He gasped dramatically. “One… last… challenge.”
Ray cracked his knuckles. “You’re on.”
They stepped on the pads, the music started — Butter
by BTS.
Ethan was flailing like an octopus on caffeine. Ray was
trying to copy the choreography from memory — badly.
“Bro, you’re stepping on my arrows!” Ethan yelled.
“Your arrows are in my zone!” Ray shouted back.
Amy and Lucy watched in silence, holding their bags, trying
not to laugh.
Then Ray tripped over the cord and crashed into Ethan. Both
fell backward into the nearby vending machine.
Cans rained down. The machine beeped “Error.”
Security walked over.
The guard sighed. “Are you two the bowling guys?”
Ethan pointed at Ray. “He is.”
Ray pointed at Ethan. “No, he is.”
Amy handed the guard a ¥1,000 note. “We’re leaving now.”
The Aftermath
Outside Round One, the sky was dark. The chaos was finally
over.
Lucy shook her head. “That was… the most stressful day of my
life.”
Amy nodded. “I’m going home and pretending today didn’t
happen.”
Ethan grinned. “See? Fun, right?”
Ray nodded eagerly. “We should do this again next week!”
Amy and Lucy answered in perfect unison:
“NO.”
Ethan shrugged. “Guess it’s just us next time, bro.”
Ray smiled. “As long as there’s popcorn.”
Amy shouted from the taxi, “THAT YOU DIDN’T STEAL!”
Ethan whispered, “She’ll never prove it.”
And as the girls drove off, the two boys turned to each
other, grinning proudly — surrounded by chaos, broken machines, and the faint
sound of Baby Shark still echoing from the building.
Ray sighed. “Best day ever.”
Ethan nodded. “Totally worth the lifetime ban.”
