The Zombie Invasion Part 3: THE CURE MISSION
The school basement—now the official HQ of the Four Kids vs. The Apocalypse Taskforce—buzzed with nervous energy. Maps, flashlights, Nerf guns, and snacks were scattered across a giant table. Amy and Lucy were planning. Ray and Ethan were sword-fighting with stale baguettes.
Classic.
“Focus!” Amy hissed, snatching a baguette out of Ethan’s
hand before he accidentally decapitated himself.
Lucy pulled down the projector screen with a dramatic fwip.
“Okay. We know where the zombies are coming from—the old abandoned shopping
mall. And rumor says… the scientists left the cure there.”
Ray raised his hand. “Question.”
“No,” Amy said instantly.
“But—”
“No.”
Ray pouted. “Fine. I’ll ask it later when you’re emotionally
vulnerable.”
Ethan leaned in, eyes glowing with excitement. “So
basically… we’re going full spy mode.”
“Yes,” Lucy sighed. “But with less screaming.”
“So basically… we’re doomed,” Amy corrected.
MISSION START: ENTERING THE ZOMBIE ZONE
The mall looked exactly like a zombie apocalypse map from a
video game—creaking metal, broken glass, flickering lights.
Ethan whispered, “Should we split up?”
“NO,” Amy and Lucy snapped at the same time.
Ray pointed at a dark hallway. “The cure must be that way.
That looks like the ‘boss level corridor.’”
“That looks like a death trap,” Lucy said.
“Same thing,” Ethan shrugged.
The four kids crept inside. Every sound made Ethan
jump—especially his own footsteps. Ray tried to look brave but clung to Lucy’s
backpack like a terrified puppy.
“Guys…” Amy whispered. “If the cure is here, it’s going to
be guarded.”
“Guarded by what?” Ray asked.
Right on cue:
GRAAAAAAARRGGHHHHH
A zombie came around the corner, drooling green goo,
stumbling toward them.
Ray screamed and threw his flashlight at it.
Ethan screamed louder and threw Ray.
Amy grabbed both of them by their collars. “STOP YEETING
EACH OTHER!”
Lucy, calmer than everyone, hit the zombie with a snow globe
she had kept in her coat for reasons unknown. Surprisingly… it worked. The
zombie flopped backward.
Ray blinked. “Lucy, what was that?!”
“My emergency emotional-support-weapon,” she replied.
