5. RETURN TO DECEPTICON BASE
The kids arrived proudly at headquarters.
Ray held the energon cell over his head like a trophy.
“MISSION SUCCESSFUL!”
Ethan: “Stealth kings!”
Amy: “It… actually worked?”
Lucy: “I hate that this worked.”
Megatron stared at the cell.
Then at the children.
“HOW?”
Starscream shouted,
“THE SECURITY FOOTAGE IS JUST THEM CRASHING INTO A DOOR!”
Megatron inspected the energon.
“It’s real. They succeeded.”
Optimus Prime entered the base through a side door.
“I gave it to them.”
Megatron froze.
Starscream froze.
Every Decepticon froze.
The base fell silent.
Ray: “He was super chill about it.”
Ethan: “We are basically diplomats now.”
Amy: “Please don’t say that publicly.”
Lucy: “Ever.”
Megatron stared at Optimus.
“…YOU HELPED MY RECRUITS?”
Optimus smiled warmly.
“It’s Christmas season.”
Ray whispered to Ethan:
“He totally has a crush on Megatron.”
Ethan whispered back,
“Bro they’re like divorced parents.”
Megatron heard that.
“CHILDREN. SILENCE.”
Optimus coughed politely.
“Well. I’ll leave you to it.”
And he walked out, humming.
Megatron turned to the kids.
“AS MUCH AS I HATE EVERYTHING THAT JUST HAPPENED…
YOU DID RETURN WITH THE OBJECTIVE.”
Ray saluted.
“Because we are built different.”
Megatron sighed.
“You are built incorrectly.”
But then he actually smiled.
“VERY WELL.
YOU HAVE PASSED YOUR SECOND MISSION.”
Ethan beamed.
“LET’S GOOOOOO!”
Amy whispered, “We lived.”
Lucy whispered, “Barely.”
